Trimbach Pinot Noir Cuvee 7 2020 750ml

From 40-year-old vines in Rotenberg and Rodern, this limited cuvée showcases the serious potential of Alsace Pinot Noir. The nose is deep and elegant, offering ripe dark cherries, blackberries, and delicate spice. On the palate, it’s rich and mouthfilling, yet structured with silky tannins and a peppery finish. Full-bodied, textural, and built to age, this wine reveals savory hints of licorice and red clay minerality beneath its fruit-forward core.

The 2020 Pinot Noir Réserve "Cuve 7" is based on fruits from roughly 40-year-old vines in the Rotenberg (on red clay and limestone) and in Rodern (granite). Macerated for about 10 to 12 days and aged in foudre until April of the following year, the 2020 offers a deep, intense and generous yet also refined and elegant bouquet of ripe dark berries and cherries intermingled with delicate toast and salt aromas. Full-bodied, quite rich and powerful-finishing, this Pinot Noir is mouthfilling, generously fleshy and intense yet also silky, lush, elegant and structured, with spicy/peppery tannins and some textural Rhône features, even licorice aromas toward the finish. An interesting and mouth-coating Pinot with excellent aging capacity, this Pinot needs some years of bottle age to refine and gain in finesse, though. 14% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in April and November 2024.

Bright crimson. Definitely Pinot Noir but a little bit raw. Correct and mouth-filling if a bit solid rather than ethereal. Bone-dry finish and still a bit bitter and astringent.

Pinot Noir Cuve 7 owes its name to the number of the vat in which it was first produced. To preserve all of its fruitiness and finesse, this wine is not aged in barrels.
It comes from the best terroirs, notably from the place called Rotenberg in Ribeauvillé and is only produced in the most radiant years. More complete and structured, this exceptional Pinot Noir is expressed by fabulous aromas of red fruits, currants and blackberries.
Pairings: pork, red meats, strong cheeses, etc.
Storage: approximately 10-15 years.
