Chateau Lassegue St-Emilion 2015 750ml

The 2015 Lassègue is a rich, polished Bordeaux that shows why this vintage is so loved on the Right Bank. With 70% Merlot leading the charge, it’s plush and deeply fruited—black forest cake, plums, cassis, and a touch of mocha. There’s also some serious structure from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, keeping the lush fruit in check with iron-tinged minerality and fine tannins. Expect layers of spice, truffle, and dark florals, finishing long and fresh. It’s opulent without going over the top—classic Seillan style—with plenty of time ahead to evolve.

Made by Pierre Seillan of Verité in Sonoma (the estate was purchased by the Jackson Family in 2003) from 50- to 60-year-old vines on clay and limestone, the 2015 Lassegue is composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with expressive black forest cake, preserved plums and blackberry pie notes with an undercurrent of mocha, grilled meats, sandalwood and cigar box plus a waft of lavender. Medium to full-bodied, rich and densely packed with opulent layers of spiced black fruit preserves and chocolate box notions, it has wonderfully plush yet firm tannins and a lovely suggestion of background acid, finishing long and fragrant. 7,500 cases were produced.

Dark crimson. Sweet, juicy nose and (just) not too oaky, nor too alcoholic though probably a bit too sweet for classicists. There is some freshness on the end though. A good vintage for this cosseted property.

CHÂTEAU LASSÈGUE: THE OPULENCE
Ornate sundials adorn the façade of Château Lassègue, a beautiful 18th century Château. This symbol of perfect sun exposure is the inspiration for our logo and represents the message of our wines. Lassègue is Saint-Émilion at its most opulent.
Old vines grow on the south/southwest hills which are the prolongation of the Côte de Saint-Émilion, and whose soils of clay and limestone add exquisite minerality to their fruit. Rich, aromatic Cabernet Franc married to the dense concentration of old vine Merlot and seasoned with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon results in a wine that is at once powerful and elegant.
2015 VINTAGE NOTES
The favorable climatic conditions of the 2015 vintage at Château Lassègue benefited this exceptional wine. After a first rainy and then cold winter, the spring was dry with relatively high temperatures, allowing early and even flowering. The beginning of the summer was particularly warm, with the rain showers that came in August a welcome respite. As a result, veraison was able to finish and maturation to launch. The good weather during the grape harvest, which took place from September 21st to October 7th, concluded the preparation of a top vintage.
TASTING NOTES
Ripe plums, black cherry liquor and dried cassis provide sumptuous aromas while hints of orange peel, toasted allspice, fresh cinnamon bark and dried tea leaf beckon. A velvety, Merlot-driven mid-palate slowly opens into a multi-layered bouquet of red fruit, toasted baking spices, truffle and coffee bean. An iron-rich minerality provides a taut, complex structure, while fine-grained tannins and firm acidity grip the palate to sustain a long and elegant finish. This classic expression of Saint-Émilion offers a dual brightness and sophistication that will continue to improve for years to come.
