Vik Milla Cala Millahue 2020 750ml

Milla Cala 2020 is a bold and structured red blend from Chile's Millahue Valley, composed of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon with Carmenere, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc. Aged for 20 months in French oak, including a portion toasted using native wood (barroir), it reveals juicy blackcurrant, sweet berry, tobacco leaf, and grilled herb notes. With fine-grained tannins and a spicy, focused finish, this wine is expressive yet refined—promising further depth with short-term cellaring.

A ripe but juicy red with plenty of blackcurrants, sweet berries, a hint of tobacco leaf and grilled herbs. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with fine-grained tannins and a spicy, tight finish. 64% cabernet sauvignon, 23.5% carmenere, 8% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 1.5% syrah. 20 months in used barrels, of which 60% follows a barroir concept where the oak was toasted with local oak trees. Better in a year or two.

The 2020 Milla Cala was produced with a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23.5% Carmenere, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Syrah from their vines in Cachapoal. The grapes were picked during the night, fermented after a five-day cold soak and went through malolactic in barrel and an ?levage in French barriques, 10% of them new, for 20 months. It's powerful and ripe at 14.2% alcohol and 3.36 grams of residual sugar. The oak is nicely integrated, and the wine feels quite serious, more linear, and it's medium-bodied with fine tannins and no creaminess or sweetness. 110,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2022.
Vik is the Nordic surname of the owners of a very modern property and winery in Cachapoal where they planted 327 hectares of high-density vineyards. These are ripe, generous and oaky wines with some residual sugar, but somehow most of the reds finished dry and I only noticed a little sweetness in one of them.
