Chateau Brane Cantenac Margaux 2000 750ml

The 2000 Brane-Cantenac is a refined and complex wine, with a blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Its bouquet is captivating, with aromas of black truffle, gravel, and red berry fruits. The medium-bodied palate is marked by a saline entry, offering impressive length and complexity with notes of black truffle, cedar, and tobacco. Although not a powerhouse, it showcases elegance and depth, with a finish that lingers. This vintage has the potential to age beautifully for 30 to 40 years, pairing wonderfully with dishes like fillet of beef with morel mushroom sauce.

The 2000 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. It has a really wonderful bouquet that is coming into its own: potent with black truffle and gravel infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline tang on the entry. It is not a powerful or huge wine, but there is impressive length here and genuine complexity on the finish, with black truffle, cedar and tobacco notes vying for attention. Henri Lurton oversaw a really quite fabulous, almost aristocratic Brane-Cantenac in this millennial year. Tasted April 2015.

Very rich aromas of ripe strawberries, spices and flowers follow through to a full body with velvety tannins and an outstanding structure. It’s always a little austere. But so much there. Just coming around now. Delicious.

Wine Style:
Lovely bouquet, mineral notes and black truffle unfolding in the glass to accompany the beautiful aromas of black fruits. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a beautiful acidity. This vintage is proportioned, replete with cedar and tobacco toward the fnish. This is a very fine millennial Brane-Cantenac.

Weather conditions
After an early bud-break at the end of March, the growing season was slowed down by a cool, damp spring. Spraying was vital for combating downy mildew and other fungal diseases. July was abnormally cold and wet, though August and September were sunny and dry, ensuring good ripening of the grapes. Harvest conditions were favourable, allowing us to wait for optimal ripeness in each plot. Thanks to hot weather the quality and concentration of the grapes was far superior to previous vintages. The Merlots showed good deep colour and fatness on the palate. The Cabernets displayed outstanding tannins, balance, roundness and finesse. Paradoxically, selection remained very severe.
