Mewstone Hughes & Hughes Lees Aged Chardonnay 2024 750ml
Mewstone Hughes & Hughes Lees Aged Chardonnay 2024 is a rich and complex single-site Chardonnay from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. Fermented naturally in oak with partial malolactic and ten months on lees, it offers vibrant grapefruit and white stone fruit aromas, bright acidity, and subtle lees complexity. Elegant, layered, and still integrating, it balances freshness with luxurious, opulent fruit character.

The 2022 Hughes & Hughes Chardonnay is sourced from the Derwent and Coal River Valleys, fermented wild, in oak, with partial malolactic fermentation. In the mouth, the wine teeters over two stylistic extremes. On one hand, it has the pure, unfettered acidity that Tasmania handles with ease. On the other hand, it's a rich, complex, almost opulently fruited wine with luxurious folds of flavor and phenolics. For me, it's a wine that is still coming together, but one that is imbued with graciousness and complexity. Give it a year or so to ease into itself.

Single Site Wines
Each year we find parcels of fruit from our growers that represent something a bit special. These wines are chosen for their quality and expression of place. With the diverse growing conditions around Tasmania we eagerly anticipate which patches will stand out after vintage. Once selected they are matured a little longer before bottling and release.
Sourced from a single site — Brinktop Vineyard in the Coal River Valley. Harvested on March 24th at 12.3 Baumé. Whole bunch pressed directly to barrel for natural fermentation and maturation, with 30% new oak. Underwent partial malolactic fermentation and spent ten months on lees. Bottled unfined and filtered.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Powerful and intense, with grapefruit and white stone fruits at the fore. Lifted by cool acidity and a subtle edge of funk for balance and intrigue.
