The 2021 Vietti Colli Tortonesi Timorasso Derthona is a beautifully textured, structured white made from 100% Timorasso grown in calcareous-clay soils around Monleale. It offers a radiant pale yellow hue with green reflections and a bouquet of pear, peach, acacia flower, and hawthorn, evolving toward honey and mineral tones with age. Fermented and aged in a mix of ceramic, wood, and steel without malolactic fermentation, it balances richness with freshness. The palate is dry, warm, and soft with vibrant acidity and a persistent, savory finish—a wine that rewards both immediate drinking and cellaring.

This big-name producer from Barolo hit the mark right from its first Timorasso in 2018. This Derthona ferments mostly in ceramic vessels and some stainless steel tanks and large oak barrels. Notes of pear and peach with mineral hints and traces of hawthorn introduce a dry, soft and rich palate of great balance, with a persistent finish.

The Vietti 2021 Colli Tortonesi Timorasso Derthona shows a brilliant appearance, density and crunchy fruit. Still quite neutral aromatically at this young stage, you can expect a slow and beautiful evolution to come. The quality of the fruit is precise and clean. I am reminded of a ripe pear closed with wax. There is a spicy note with white pepper and a hint of kerosene. A tart hint of citric acid needs to iron out, but it gives the wine the ability to age. Some 20,000 bottles were made.
Vietti has access to Nebbiolo from 10 MGA sites to make the various wines in its ample portfolio. We also have a new wine to celebrate—the 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà—that knocks it out of the ballpark with its inaugural release.

The grapes come from several vineyards located in the municipality of Monleale, with south-east and south-west exposure. The soil is calcareous-clayey.
Vinification: fermentation, of about 4 weeks, is carried out partly in ceramic, partly in wooden vats and partly in steel. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out. The wine ages for a total of 10 months in the same containers in which fermentation takes place and remains in contact with the fine lees until the following summer.
Description: in the glass it appears clear, intense yellow in color with greenish reflections; on the nose fruity hints reminiscent of pear, peach and floral notes such as acacia flowers and hawthorn; a characteristic note of honey can also be perceived. After 2-3 years the mineral notes are more noticeable, in some cases accentuated by the typical hint of hydrocarbon, which enriches the wine. In the mouth it is dry, warm and soft, very balanced; It has no sharp edges and in the finish you can perceive a good acidity that gives length, persistence and flavour to the palate.
