    Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
    Dry

    This Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with hints of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to deliver rich aromas of cassis, blackberry, and mint. Smooth yet powerful, it offers fine-grained tannins and a long, expressive finish—capturing the perfect balance of modern refinement and classic Bordeaux character.

    I love the deep and complex nose, in which the cassis and mint of cabernet sauvignon are beautifully married to the more generous blackberry of ripe merlot and the vanilla and toasty notes from the oak are marvelously integrated. On the palate it creeps up on you slowly; the first impression is ripe yet delicate, then the fine-grained tannins charge through and light up the sky. Very long finish. Drink or hold.

    The colour is rich and deep but with luminosity that gives nuance and fresh air. It's a lovely 2016, poised but not as powerful as some in the vintage, yet every inch the sophisticated reflection of the appellation. Restrained grilled berry fruits take their time to unfurl. It's still very closed but the liquorice and slate notes become clearer after 10 minutes in the glass, and the wine has already deepened in the few years since bottling. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Yield 46hl/ha.

    The 2016 Malartic Lagraviere is blended of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with wild blueberries and black cherries with cassis, bay leaves and dark chocolate nuances plus a hint of charcoal. Medium-bodied with a lively backbone and solid frame of ripe, rounded tannins, it finishes with an herbal lift.

    Tasted blind. Distinctive and daringly alcoholic and then uncomfortably dry. Ambitious even if slightly in a 20th-century idiom.

    Château Malartic-Lagravière 2016, a unique grand cru

Harvesting, vinification, leaf stripping and aging in old oak barrels, we allow each vintage of Château Malartic-Lagravière Pessac-Léognan appellation to express all its particularity.

    An exceptional climate for a great classified red vintage
    Climatology is one of the factors that determines the character of a vintage. This year, the winter and spring were rainy, thus favoring the yield.

    On the contrary, the summer was one of the hottest of the decade, with a long period without rain. The late summer was also warm, lending elegance to this vintage. It was after extreme and exceptional weather conditions that the harvest was able to take place, following the beneficial rains of mid-September.

    The composition of the 2016 vintage, between balance and complex aromas
    Our experts guarantee the balance of a wine through its composition, based on the maturity of the grapes and the climate. The 2016 vintage of Château Malartic-Lagravière, Pessac-Léognan appellation, is composed of:

    Cabernet-Sauvignon 53%;
    Merlot 40%;
    Cabernet-Franc 4%;
    Petit-Verdot 3%.
