Chateau Leoville Poyferre St-Julien 2015 750ml

A benchmark Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most admired Second Growths, the 2015 vintage of Léoville Poyferré impresses with depth, precision, and elegance. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot, it reveals layers of blackberry, cassis, and chocolate framed by cedar, spice, and fine-grained tannins. Full-bodied yet refined, this powerful and complex wine captures the richness and balance of a near-perfect vintage — a true expression of Saint-Julien’s gravelly terroir and the estate’s signature sensual style.

Bramble tones with gorgeous green pepper Cabernet styling, from the 65% in the blend, alongside chocolate and raspberry and a delicate hint of perfume on the nose too. Crunchy, mouth filling and chewy, such generosity of flavour and texture - really expands in the mouth. It has a spiced touch still, clove and cedar which adds a picquance to the palate and focuses this less on the overt fruit more on the structure and depth of the mid palate where all the flavour lingers and layers up. Such a complex wine, where you can really tell all the different aspects have been well handled. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot. Harvest 24 September-10 October.

A rich and intense red with blackberries, tar and spices. Black tea and blueberries. Full-bodied, very layered and multi-dimensional. Very long and flavorful. Such great texture. A dynamic and superb red. Drink in 2023.

The 2015 Leoville Poyferre is deep garnet-purple colored with a nose of grilled meats, baked plums, crème de cassis and baker's chocolate with nuances of dusty soil and iron ore plus a hint of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, very firm and muscular in the mouth, it is built like a brick house with a mineral-tinged finish.

Tasted blind. Glowing garnet. Very slightly sweaty, indistinct nose. Beefy. Not the subtlest but it has heft. Chewy, drying, sudden finish.

Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré is an emblematic estate in the Saint-Julien appellation. The vineyard extends over 80 hectares of magnificent deep gravel terroirs along the Gironde estuary. The wines are sensual, vibrant and precise, and their ageing potential is matched only by their charm.
The 2015 vintage, the magic of the number five.
The number 5 keeps its promise. Everything in 2015 contributed to the making of a remarkable vintage.
A cold winter, punctuated rainfall and the warm summer sun ensured perfect development of the vines and grapes throughout all the key stages of the growing season.
The human touch will make it an exceptional vintage.
Our tasting notes – 2022
The 2015 vintage displays a brilliant, limpid deep garnet color with purple highlights.
This expressive Saint-Julien is bursting with aromas of red and black fruit. Upon aeration, these enticing aromas intensify, revealing crème de cassis accompanied by lush, toasted notes.
Powerful, plump, and generous, the tannic structure gives way to a singular freshness that brings a lot of elegance, characteristic of a great Saint-Julien. Dense ripe black fruit echoes through to the finish, accented by a hint of vanilla. This beautiful vintage shows magnificent complexity, placing it among the great vintages of the estate.
